MICHAELA WEIHS
Similar to my jewelry, my steel sculptures can possess a noble quality without any obligation to conform to traditional notions of beauty. In both form and concept, these sculptures align more closely with the large-format jewelry pieces I have designed, which invite interaction through unconventional combinations of materials. The foundation of my creative process often lies in basic geometric shapes. These forms are ultimately multiplied, aligned, ordered, or subtly shifted, creating a harmonious structure. This balance, however, is enlivened by spontaneous restructuring within a planned framework, introducing a sense of playful lightness. My smaller steel sculptures, primarily designed for indoor spaces, embody organic movements that reflect the essence of life itself: "Panta Rhei"—everything flows, everything changes. As a result, these objects naturally evolve over time. Marks of handling and the effects of air and moisture gradually adorn the steel with a delicate rusted patina, imbuing each moment with unique beauty.
